I’m really really gonna miss this car. Found out today she has a cracked oil pan in addition to all the suspension damage from my offroading excursion which means she’ll likely be totaled.
I feel like an asshole for destroying it, and I had done so much work on the suspension, engine and more to get her driving better than ever. The V8 sounded amazing, she was reliable, took me on my first big road trip. This really hurts. Now I’ll just have to focus on the Z3 Coupe and all the little work that needs to be back to daily driver condition. I was waiting for it to warm up, but I don’t have that luxury anymore

If the frame is straight I say buy it back. Replace the broken suspension bits and pan. As long as you didn’t lose oil pressure from the pan crack the engine should be fine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M60-M62-V8-Lower-Steel-Engine-Oil-Pan-1993-2003-E34-E38-E39-540-740-OEM-USED/183624024609?hash=item2ac0d84221:g:VRkAAOSwzodcMm6D:rk:2:pf:0

Oh man, that sucks. I’ve always been curious about the 530i with the V8, seems like such a unique engine. Sorry to hear - worth buying back to try repairing or salvage for parts if its something you’ve babied and have good money invested in?

From what my mechanic said and what I think I don’t think the frame is straight most likely, and it’s also leaking power steering everywhere. If I owned it outright maybe I’d try and keep it, but I just don’t have the money or the storage too.
Hopefully ina year or two I can find a nice E28 or something once I save some money up

Dang son I hope it lives on in some form, I have eyed manual 530i's for a long time, that e34 design is just so classy

Thats a bummer. All the old ones seems to leak ps fluid somewhere. E28 is a solid choice though. There’s one on the east coast on mye28 right now that’s a steal for all the work that’s gone into it.

That does look sweet. Mine had a little power steering leak like every month Id have to top it off, but hitting the curb definitely caused it all to go.
I figure I’ll save for a little while as I finish up all the stuff I want to do on the Z3 and then I’ll start the search. I always liked the E28 styling more. The m60 V8 sound is gonna be missed by me, it sounded like an exotic racecar. I never got tired of gunning it to hear it rev up and roar and then letting off the gas for some nice exhaust pops.
If I get an E28, I’ll probably swap it for an M60 to build my ultimate 5er

I know that has been done, but it isn’t as well documented as the m5x swaps for the e30.

e28 is a better car IMO. Not as stately, but better built.

Its such a good engine. Never had any reliability issues with the engin and the sound with just a simple magnaflow was exotic and amazing. I work at a benz dealer and have revved it against a new GTR and people were shocked to admit it sounded better lol.
I’m really gonna miss this one, she’ll always be in my mind

This is very likely worth buying back and fixing; these are cool cars that are underappreciated. Steering rack, tie rods, and some suspension bits should get it back on the road (and I guess a couple wheels). It looks to be in really good shape, otherwise.
If you don’t decide to fix it,
I really am not in the position to offer to buy it off you, unfortunately. I see the PA plates so you’re not too-too far away. I will try and think if I know anyone in the region who may be interested.

I really would love to keep it, but having two cars was already a big financial headache at the moment. I’m still waiting to hear back from insurance, but if I can buy it back I might. It is in very good shape and only has 70,000 miles which is why I feel so shitty about crashing it. I put tons of work into it over the past year.
Did the valve covers, subframe bushings, trailing arm bushings, diff bushings, new control arms, tie rods, tires, shift boot and knob, new radiator, air filter boot, exhaust, etc.
Really hurts :-/

Keep us in the loop, hopefully you’re able to buy it back and get it back on the road when time and money permit.
